About Our School
Southside Elementary School believes that the standards of dress and grooming should be primarily the responsibility of the parents and students with the understanding that students shall wear appropriate clothing and groom themselves in a manner which reflects good taste, does not violate the rules of decency, offend the standards of other students, or distract from the educational program. All students are expected to comply with the following minimum standards of dress and grooming:
Clothing: Clothing should be clean and neat. No vulgar or suggestive comments, or advertising alcohol or tobacco products.
Spaghetti straps, halter tops, tank tops, bare midriffs, fish net shirts, or half shirts are NOT permitted. This includes torn or radically altered clothing. (Sleeveless shirts are acceptable).
For safety reasons, long dangling earrings are not to be worn to school.
Shorts, skirts, and dresses should be an adequate length to preserve student modesty.Garments shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments at all times.
Hats are not allowed at school. Shoes with wheels are not allowed at school.
Southside Elementary School reserves the right to send home any student, which in the opinion of the principal or designee, is not appropriately dressed for school. If you have any questions regarding the dress code, use this rule of thumb: IF IN DOUBT, DON'T WEAR IT!! Violations of this policy will result in the following disciplinary actions:
First Violation - Home contact and student may be asked to change clothing.
Second Violation - Home contact, student may be sent home to change, and a discipline report issued to violator for willful disobedience.
Third Violation - Home contact, student may be sent home to change, and a discipline report issued with specific consequences to violator for defiance of authority.
Students may exit cars or buses after 7:15 a.m. (school grounds are not supervised until this time) and report directly to the cafeteria or gymnasium until 7:32 a.m. Students who are not in their classrooms by 7:40 a.m. are considered tardy and must report to the office. Students must obtain a tardy pass before going to class
Southside Elementary utilizes the School Dismissal Manager app for dismissal procedures. Each parent has a unique log-in for the app which allows them to select the default dismissal procedure for their students as well as create exceptions to the standard dismissal when needed. For example, a parent may select ¨Bus 68¨ as the default dismissal for their student. Each day teachers would know to put that student on Bus 68. However, parents can create a one time exception. Let´s say they need to pick their student up for a dentist appointment right after school. They can log-in the app and create an exception for that day letting the teacher know to hold the student off the bus for parent pickup.Parents will receive an registration email when they enroll their students at Southside. If there are any questions or they don´t receive an email, they can email or message the front office or Ms. Candy at firstname.lastname@example.org
