⭐️ Autumn Davis Earns Highest Honor in Girl Scouts ⭐️

It's Autumn Davis Week in Midway, Kentucky, this week! 💚

Why is it Autumn Davis Week? The answer is extremely exciting! 😁 It's Autumn Davis Week because our very own Autumn Davis, senior at Woodford County High School, earned the Girl Scout Gold Award. The Gold Award is the highest honor that a Girl Scout can achieve. Not only does this accomplishment require years of dedication to Girl Scouts, it also calls for a significant service project from the scout wishing to obtain the award.

Autumn, who started Girl Scouts when she was a Kindergarten student at Northside Elementary, wanted to tie reading and hiking, two of her passions, into her project. She brought these two hobbies together by creating a story trail at Northside.

A story trail is an outdoor reading experience. It's something that Mrs. Melinda Caldwell, Librarian and School Technology Coordinator at Northside, had always wanted to bring to Northside. (Fun fact: Mrs. Caldwell was Autumn's librarian when she was in elementary school. 🥰) She was thrilled to work with Autumn to add this engaging element right outside of the library's windows.

Autumn's story trail has beautiful signage that she built with the help of her troop family and volunteers. Building the signs that comprise the story trail challenged Autumn in new ways. It truly was a labor of love! She is so thankful to all who helped her along her Girl Scouts journey and who aided in this project.

For the stories inside of the signs, Autumn and Mrs. Caldwell selected ten books. From those ten books, students voted on the first one they wanted to see in the story trail. New books can be changed into the signage whenever kids are ready for new stories.

When reflecting on her time in Girl Scouts, Autumn says, "Girl Scouts has always been a huge part of my life. It's really shaped me into the person I am today. With my project, I wanted to give back to my community in a meaningful way and help improve the world in ways that I can." Autumn exudes all five of our Portrait of a Learner competencies, but we really see 💚 Responsible Contributor 💚 come through in her project!

Autumn has loved her time in Girl Scouts. She would recommend it to any young girl in the community who is wishing to become more involved.

Autumn's mother, Susan, sums up her Gold Award project beautifully by saying, "Autumn began her Girl Scouts career at Northside, and now she has achieved the highest honor in Girl Scouts, again at Northside. It is so full circle." 💚☺️🥹🥳✨

We are so proud of you, Autumn! We are proud of your hard work, dedication, kindness, and desire to serve others. Congratulations on this outstanding achievement.
